The Distance Learning Programme
The syllabus for the Maritime Management Diplomas, and their subject units have been developed by ICM - the examining and awarding body. London Waterloo Academy provides highly skilled and experienced tutors with the relevant under-pinning knowledge for each subject.
For each subject there is a recommended professional reading text book which London Waterloo Academy will supply as part of the course materials.
Each subject is made up of 12 units for which students will be set work by their tutors and asked to answer a series of questions and submit assignments or a project for the unit, which will then be marked and returned with comments. Students will submit assignments to tutors through the London Waterloo Academy centre.
Course assignments will always relate to the syllabus materials. Completion of assignments forms a key component of exam preparation. Tutors will mark and return assignments with comments and advisory hints that will aid students in furthering their investigations and supplementing their study. Upon completing the set assignments - and obtaining marks indicating successful knowledge attainment - the student will be advised of the next available assessment dates and offered entry for examination.
Students also receive a course certificate at the end by LWA to prove they have undertaken a distance learning programme of professional studies.
The London Waterloo Academy administration system provides the primary communication link between students and tutors. It is the route for mailing assignments and providing student feedback. The administration system also processes student registration for ICM examinations.
The administrators will endeavour to resolve course related problems and facilitate student/tutor contact for the course duration. The first point of contact for students must always be their appointed tutor.
